DANY, COULD YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT THE FIRST RANGE OF EYESHADOWS IN 1984?

When I opened my first boutique in 1984 (at 5 Rue de la Boétie in Paris) with 100 eyeshadows, it was a first. There were no makeup stores selling to both professionals and the general public at the time, and no other eyeshadow line had such a wide range of colors.
Everything was ‘home-made’ and they were placed shade by shade on enormous trays to display the entire palette. As soon as you walked in the store, they were the first thing you saw. We sold the eyeshadows in round, see-through little pots, and we’re actually reusing that original design for ARTIST SHADOW.


THE PRO WORLD EVOLVES AND ALSO THEIR NEEDS, THAT’S WHY YOU DECIDED TO MAKE A CHANGE TO YOUR BRAND’S ICONIC PRODUCTS, COULD YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT THEIR CREATION?


This is not just a brand evolution, it’s a revolution! It was a long while before the research started tackling ways to make eyeshadow formulas evolve, but when that time came, we approached the laboratories to see what they could come up with for us. We looked closely at several different technological developments and we opted to pursue the most… difficult. Why? Because it opened up a vast field of possibilities, in terms of creativity, colors, textures, effects, quality and hold. It meant that developing the whole range would be a highly complex operation: we had to consider each eyeshadow separately, finding just the right compaction and press for that particular color. It was a long haul, and took us three years.


NOW YOU BRING OUT AN EXCEPTIONAL RANGE OF 210 NEW-GENERATION EYESHADOWS, WHY THIS AMOUNT?

We could have gone up to 500 colors but that wasn’t our goal: i want to offer profusion, which is not to be confused with ‘too much’. We decided to launch 210 shades and propose a permanent collection incorporating ultra-precise colors, painstakingly developed and chosen with great care. They are quite unique and have been formulated with passion and care to suit artists, makeup professionals and everyday women.
