Two weeks ago, the A Shaded View On Fashion Film (ASVOFF) festival took place in Paris from October 11th – 13th. We were there on the ground, ostensibly to deliver an award, but drinking in all the fabulous films and fashion as well.

For the 6th time, the ASVOFF festival took place in central Paris at the Pompidou Center. This festival, created in 2006 by famous fashion blogger and critic Diane Pernet, shakes up all the rules of fashion by putting the focus on the moving image, quite a change in an industry long dominated by the ‘still’ photographic medium.

During the festival, emerging as well as established artists were in full effect, such as Mike Figgis, Bettina Rheims, Wing Shya, David Sims, Ellen Von Unwerth, and Bruce Weber. Represented as well were Haute Couture houses and designers like Dior Homme, Haider Ackermann, Hussein Chalayan, Pierre Cardin, Armani, Chanel, Gieves & Hawkes, Terry de Havilland and Viktor&Rolf to name but a few, competing to show short movies providing another point of view on fashion and challenging the conventional parameters of film. It was exciting!

90 short films competed for only 9 awards including one for Best Makeup. MAKE UP FOR EVER took part in the festival, giving the well-deserved Beauty Award to makeup artist Vicky Steckel for her outstanding work in the movie “Sister Act”, directed by Ellen von Unwerth.
