BLACK TANGO
TANGO SHOW
It was during a trip to Argentina last year that Dany Sanz reconnected with an old friend, Jean-Luc Don Vito, make-up artist specialized in the world of Tango. This reunion would serve as her inspiration for the MAKE UP FOR EVER Fall 2012 Collection dedicated to this impassioned waltz, a world dear to Dany, who, with her South American roots, used to dance the tango herself. Dany’s ongoing contact with these artists has enabled her to better understand the demands of their stage performances. She took her inspiration from their needs and has created easy-to-use and incredibly long-lasting products that are perfectly tailored to these extreme conditions.
MAKE UP FOR EVER presents its new BLACK TANGO collection, showcasing confidence and sophisticated femininity. Artistic elegance, colors that draw their tones from black lace and the Latin spirit of seduction are in the spotlight. The result is four new AQUA CREAMs offered in a limited edition palette, three matching nail polishes and a lipstick with an incredible, glamorous shine. For creating a precise and passionate Tango look.
CHIAROSCURO
Light and shadow set the pace for a beautiful graphic effect in counter tones. Like a structured choreography, black and ivory create a chiaroscuro and contrasting effect. On pale skin, red ignites the mouth, and smoky eyes reveal a dense and intense gaze, while the nails are coated in reddish black glints.
SENSUAL LACE
A COLLECTION OF FIERY COLORS
A Palette under the spotlight
MAKE UP FOR EVER has invented a new object of desire with the BLACK TANGO palette. Blacks with subtle and intense reflections that reveal themselves to be powerful potions of seduction. New unexpected and ultra-chic colors that are hidden in an extremely feminine limited edition compact. A lace fan against a beautiful deep red. Inside hides a large mirror decorated with lace and a professional brush.
In the same case: four new AQUA CREAM shades created around a harmony of blacks with red, green and blue reflections as well as an ivory color. Dark colors with subtle glints, like precious stones. Thanks to its silky touch, AQUA CREAM is easily applied and its melt-away texture can be shaded to your heart’s content. Featuring firm nylon fiber bristles; the brush in the palette is perfect for creamy shadows and allows easy application.

Four New Colors, One Single Velvety Formula
Since its launch, Aqua Cream has been one of the beauty world’s best-sellers thanks to its wide choice of colors and its professional formula, which offers:
- Intense and luminous color thanks to a high concentration of pigments and pearlescent particles.
- Long-lasting hold. Filmogenic Polymers encapsulate the pigments, making them waterproof. The Volatile Oils evaporate after application, leaving the pigments fixed on the skin.
- Unique comfort with the Synthetic Ester. Lighter than traditional mineral oils, it provides easy application and a silky feel.
THE ULTIMATE RED
A tango danced closely, untouchable lips. The mouth is the center of attention as AQUA ROUGE beautifully enhances this utterly desirable smile.
MAKE UP FOR EVER launches AQUA ROUGE, a very long-lasting waterproof lipstick with a dazzling color result. Highly glossy, concentrated lipstick - an innovative product that combines two applications in one.
Step 1: the liquid lipstick delivers intense, matte color.
Step 2: the top coat provides a vinyl finish and protects the color.
For the BLACK TANGO look, DANY SANZ has chosen AQUA ROUGE no.11, Dark Raspberry, a mysterious flame red.

SENSUAL NAIL POLISH
Because polished nails beautifully enhance the figure and add the final touch to a look, Dany Sanz has created three nail polishes for incredibly feminine appeal. Thanks to their deep colors – red black, green black and blue black – they perfectly echo the intense and sensual world of BLACK TANGO.
For a sophisticated and torrid look down to your fingertips, MAKE UP FOR EVER launches three nail polishes to match the BLACK TANGO palette. Three incredibly chic and intense nearly blacks to match your smoky eye for a perfect tone-on-tone effect.

BACKSTAGE SECRETS
In 2011, Dany Sanz and Jean-Luc Don Vito were reunited in Buenos Aires and shared the backstage life of a Tango performance. As a make-up artist specialized in the Tango world, Jean-Luc Don Vito has shared his vision of the Tango and MAKE UP FOR EVER.
• How did you discover the Tango?
I have been fascinated with Argentina since I was a child. When I was ten years old, I bought a jar of pomade from my local hairdresser’s to plaster down my hair! The visual style of the Tango has always appealed to me. But my first encounter with the Tango was in a professional context. In 1983, I was working as a make-up artist for a show in the Autumn Festival at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. The directors asked me to design all the make-up for the dancers.
• How did you meet Dany Sanz?
I met Dany in 1981, I was her pupil and she taught me everything. I have to underline that Dany is responsible for the first ever make-up training program, she was the one to give the profession an educational focus. When Dany was doing demonstrations we would all go, it was simply magical. We lived and breathed make-up, the world of the stage, we became a real family. And at the end of the year, I won first prize at her school! Last year, when Dany and I were reunited in Buenos Aires for a Tango show, we worked on the make-up together. Dany was astonished when I opened my make-up case and she saw the old sticks and eyeshadow palettes from our débuts, as well as our legendary lipstick: L80. I have always used these products, but I have especially treasured the original techniques, the ones that Dany taught me. So the make-up we did together took on an original meaning, from every perspective.
• How would you define the Tango?
The Tango is fundamentally dramatic and eccentric. It enhances feelings: emotion and passion. It is both wild and sensual.
• What make-up does the Tango woman traditionally wear?
The Tango woman’s make-up is synonymous with sophistication and seduction. The colors used are black, red, plum and sometimes orange. The reds are strong, intense and surprising; they are deep with a touch of black, which makes them appear reddish-burgundy. The complexion is always very pale for the stage. It must be powdered and structured, playing on light and shade. This structural work tends to be neglected, and yet it is the foundation of the make-up’s graphic dimension. The eyes are designed in shades of plum and outlined with black for a dramatic look. The eyebrows are perfectly drawn.
• In terms of make-up, what do Tango dancers require?
Whether it is for the stage or for Milonga dance halls, the make-up must have impeccable hold. The products must therefore be long-lasting; do not forget that the Tango is danced cheek to cheek, a true game of seduction!
• What do you think about Dany Sanz’s interpretation of the Black Tango look for MAKE UP FOR EVER?
Black and plum dominate, with a precise red-pink for the cheeks and burgundy for the mouth; these colors remind me so much of the shows for which I did the make-up. Dany has concentrated the essence of the Tango into this visual. I would like to add that in the Tango world, everyone knows MAKE UP FOR EVER! I have done make-up for many different dance companies and many generations of dancers have been in my make-up chair. Tango professionals are used to the brand and have been brought up with it: since its beginnings, MAKE UP FOR EVER has been linked with the Tango!
