One show, one makeup competition for a place as head of makeup for Kamel OUALI’s new Musical Show “Dracula, l’amour plus fort que la mort”.
It all goes back to November 2010 when the famous French choreographer Kamel OUALI and Dany SANZ, founder and artistic director of MAKE UP FOR EVER, met up and came up with the idea of an international makeup competition to find Dracula’s makeup director.
Open to amateurs and professional artists around the globe, the contest took off last December 2010 and was the opportunity for all kinds of “artists” to become head of makeup for the musical show.
The first step towards the fantastic contract was an online photo submission on www.draculalespectacle.com of a day-time and a night-time makeup design focusing on the Dracula theme. 684 artists logged in and tried their best to impress our jury with innovating and creative creations. 10 lucky finalists headed to Paris for the final, that held last January, where they had to achieve two different Dracula designs in a short period of time and defend their creations in front of Dany SANZ, Kamel OUALI, Dominique BORG (costume director) and the show’s producer.
After numerous hours of deliberations the jury surprised everybody by announcing not only one, but two lucky winners: Maïté Guitterez from Spain and Déborah Moreno from France. The beginning of a dream come true for these two makeup artists.
684 contestants, 36 different countries and more than 400,000 candidates logged onto www.draculalespectacle.com, so we decided to share the adventure with you through a exclusive 5 episode Dracula webseries that we will broadcast over a 5 week period, starting from NOW!
