Students on the long training courses have presentations to make on the history of makeup, from Antiquity to the 90's, right after the Holiday break.

All in all, it took them about a full time week to have everything ready to rock the casbah!

At the Paris Academy, students enrolled in the long training course learn makeup: Beauty, Cinema, TV, SFX… but doing presentations is also part of their curriculum. The groups and themes are drawn by the teachers but students can deal with the subject as they want. The week before Christmas, all students are scheduled to study in many parisian libraries to gather the necessary information. Presentations take place on two days after the holidays. Students are assessed by their teachers on three criteria: timing, creativity and content.

As for the students, we've inquired about how they prepared for those presentations, what they looked for and where they got their inspiration. Some groups shyly admitted that working only in libraries was difficult: you can't really speak and they close on different days - not easy to keep a schedule. They decided to work as a team, each having a specific task but spreading the info to the group every night. They met at Starbucks around pancakes to give shape to their presentation and free rein to their creativity.

It's by looking at all the pictures gathered in front of them that some got the idea to do their presentation disguised! They contacted Theater companies and a solidarity association to rent costumes, one bought a sequined dress, a keeper! They also wore the decade's makeup and had accessories such as a cane, a hat, a soft toy... When the day came, they got into role playing, Kiki de Montparnasse introduced Salvador Dalí who gave the mic to Greta Garbo who looked at Charlie Chaplin holding black & white sheets of paper with his speech. They edited a video to enliven their presentation and have as a background as they spoke. All in all, it took them about a full time week to have everything ready to rock the casbah!
One request from the teachers is that if there is a foreign student in the group, she/he needs to present what was done in her/his country in the chosen decade. Lucky for us to have many foreigners in class!

Students reported to be happy to do presentations, "it's a nice change from classes and makeup, we learn new cultural things". They were all very commited to this exercise and to their groups and peers. They've shown proof again of a great attitude.

You'll see groups doing the 20's, the 30's and the 80's in the slideshow. Enjoy!
