April C - Student Of the Month for March

Congratulations on being chosen as the Student of the Month - March. April has been chosen after earning the highest grade in the Master Program.

1. Congratulations on being chosen as the student of the month. What do you think set your work apart from your classmates in the last assessment? Walk us through this process.

I think that what set me apart was attempting a makeup look that I felt was possibly beyond my skills. I wasn’t entirely sure that I would be able to do it but I had to try and push myself.

2. Tell me about your background before attending Make Up For Ever NY.

I previously attended an art school so I have had some creative and artistic training. I have also been living in NYC for 10 years and working in the film industry.

3. Have you always wanted to become a makeup artist or have any past interest in the arts?

I have always loved being involved in the art world and always had an interest in makeup and film. Any way that I could put those two things together I was sure I’d enjoy it!

4. What made you decide to come to Make Up For Ever Academy NY campus?

I came to the  Make Up For Ever Academy because of it’s reputation as a great school and because of my personal respect and enjoyment of the brand itself.

5. It was a bold move moving into NY all by yourself, how have you been finding it so far?

I love living in NY. There are some many ways to involve yourself in the artistic world and it’s so culturally diverse I have trouble imagining living anywhere else. It’s a fantastic source of inspiration!

6. How would you describe your makeup style?

Detailed. I like working with graphic liner and challenging myself with creative detail.

7. As an artist, sometimes the hardest thing is finding new inspiration for your work, where do you go to for that?

You can find inspiration everywhere, especially the streets of NY. I personally spend a large amount of time looking at art and researching other cultures, as well as looking at new and upcoming designers in the fashion world as they tend to be very daring and inspired.

8. To date what has been the most challenging experience you’ve had at the academy?

A very difficult aspect is learning to look at makeup in a different way; as not just a whole but as all the small parts that must be attended to and given equal importance.

9. What has been the most rewarding?

The most rewarding experiences for me are meeting so many new and passionate people, especially my teachers  and classmates.

10. There are a million and one Make Up For Ever products, what are your top 5?

Smoky Extravagant Mascara, HD Blush, Rouge Artist Intense, Aqua Seal and the Flash Palette.

11. What are your future plans after graduating from the academy?

I would love to continue working in the film industry but am really open to any opportunity that comes my way. There are so many amazing artists out there to learn from and I’d like to work with as many as I can.

12. If you can assist any established makeup artist, who would it be and what is it about them that you admire the most?

Alex Box or Ve Neill. Both are so talented in their separate specialties and have worked hard to be in the places they are. I'm also a big fan of Rick Baker and his special effects work. It's so hard to choose just one person. I'd like to work with everyone!

13. Describe in one word how your experience at the academy has been so far.

Exhilarating
