We are constantly inundated by images filled with other artist’s work. While it can be inspiring, it makes it very hard to avoid replicating what we see. In this class you will learn to find your own artistic voice and set yourself apart from the pack. James will share his methodology for how he develops makeup looks and draws his design from abstract sources. He will then guide attendees through an exercise to re-tool their creative process.

ABOUT JAMES VINCENT
Currently Director of Education and Artistry for The Makeup Show and The Powder Group, James’ passion for makeup has lead him to work in film, theater and television with celebrities (Lady Gaga, Reese Witherspoon, Jane Fonda), as well as editorial and runway. As the Production Makeup Supervisor for the NYC-based production of The Lion King, Elizabeth is an expert at how makeup plays a crucial role in telling stories. In this seminar, she will share insights gathered from being present since the beginning of one of Broadway’s most acclaimed productions and give a window into how the technical aspects of theatrical elements and makeup application impact the implementation of makeup design.

ABOUT ELIZABETH COHEN
An Austin native, Elizabeth is a third generation visual artist. Her earliest artistic inspiration was her mother, the fine art photographer and painter Carol Cohen Burton. As her artistic awareness expanded, she was deeply impacted by Rothko, Diebenkorn, Basquiat, Calder, Martin Puryear, Andy Goldsworthy, and Diane Arbus. Her lifelong interest in creating led her to pursue a BA in Studio Art (with a minor in Theater) from Vassar College. Her career as a makeup artist has been entirely in theater, the vast majority of which has been spent using humans as her canvases for The Lion King, (which celebrates its 20th anniversary on November 5).
