There was something about getting lost in the paint, something I would love for years to come. Hours would go by and I would get lost in space and time. I had found my passion.

Betsy Karp is a certified Health and Wellness Counselor, motivational speaker, and author but is better known as “The Color Coach”. Karp uses her knowledge on color to teach people about color and how it can strengthen their mind, body, and soul. By incorporating guided meditation, personal color analysis, and chakra healing, her methods leave her clients feeling empowered and optimistic. Karp has been featured on The Dr. Oz Show, The Chew, The Woman’s Connection, and Tara Marie Live. She has written a book on color titled, Change; Build Your Self-Confidence through Color in 21 Days and has had her articles published in Yoga Life Magazine. She has worked with a variety of clients such as Lulu Lemon Athletica, UBS, Cancer Care, and many more. Her love for color inspired her to open an after school program I adore me through Citizen Schools, which empowers children to strengthen their self-confidence.

What is your relationship with Makeup? In other words, what does makeup mean to you and what role does it play in your life, either personally or professionally?

I adore Makeup and it’s my true friend! I have all kinds of relationships with the roles I play with makeup. Sometimes, I use makeup very softly and lightly to give me a fresh natural look, like a lazy Sunday morning on my way to meet friends for brunch. Then there are the times that I use it to bring out the lioness in me, when I want to rev up that passion for a night on the town, or to be very seductive with my boyfriend. I use Makeup as an expression of who I am and how I want the world to see me. I use the colors in makeup to evoke my emotions, and this is how I use it professionally as, The Color Coach.

Do you have any memories associated with makeup?

My memories with makeup began at the age of seven. I was a painter and I loved playing with all the colors and textures of makeup. I played with my mother’s lipsticks and eyeshadows as soon as she left the house. It made me feel so grown up. I have wonderful memories with my baby sisters and applying makeup!
